Open Rate
The percentage of delivered emails that recipients open, traditionally a headline email metric, now made less reliable by privacy features that auto-open mail.
Why it matters
Open rate has long been used to judge subject lines and list health, but privacy protections that pre-fetch images have inflated and muddied it, so it must be read with caution.
How it is calculated
Open rate = (emails opened / emails delivered) x 100.
What good looks like
Treat open rate as a rough, increasingly noisy directional signal rather than a precise measure, and lean on reply and click metrics for outbound that matters.
