Why it matters
A positioning statement is the reference document that keeps everyone telling the same story. It is usually written for internal alignment, not for the website, and it forces clarity on the target buyer, the frame of reference, and the key differentiator. When it is sharp, every downstream message inherits the discipline.
What good looks like
A classic format names the target customer, the need, the category, the key benefit, and the reason to believe. The test is whether two people on different teams, given the statement, would describe the product the same way.
