Search intent is the reason behind a query: informational, commercial, transactional, navigational. Modern search engines rank pages that best match the intent, not just the keyword, so understanding it is essential to creating content that ranks and converts. Misjudging intent means even a well-optimised page fails.
What good looks like
Content matches intent when it gives searchers what they actually came for, a how-to for a how-to query, a comparison for a comparison query. A sales page targeting an informational query will not rank or convert, the format must fit the intent.
